Mark A. Codner, M.D., F.A.C.S.
Board Certified Plastic Surgeon
Dr. Codner is board certified by the American Board of Surgery and the American Board of Plastic Surgery in addition to being a fellow of the American College of Surgeons. He was also recently inducted into the American Association of Plastic Surgeons. He is a native of Atlanta, Georgia and received his undergraduate degree from Emory University Summa Cum Laude in psychology. He also graduated from Emory’s School of Medicine and received his medical degree with Alpha Omega Alpha distinction.
Dr. Codner trained in general surgery at Cornell Medical Center and at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in New York City with extensive research in transplantation immunology performed at Rockefeller University. Following his general surgery training he returned to Atlanta where he trained in plastic and reconstructive surgery at Emory University. He was chief resident in plastic surgery at Emory. Dr. Codner then continued his interest in oculoplastic surgery with specialized fellowship training with Dr. Clinton McCord of Atlanta, making him a highly specialized plastic surgeon of the eyelids and orbits. He then completed his training in aesthetic surgery with a fellowship in cosmetic surgery under Drs. Baker, Gordon, and Stuzin in Miami, Florida.
Among his many activities, Dr. Codner serves as Clinical Assistant Professor of Plastic Surgery at Emory University as well as Director of the Fellowship Program in Aesthetic and Oculoplastic Surgery at Paces Plastic Surgery. He is affiliated with two of Atlanta’s premier hospitals, Piedmont Hospital and Northside Hospital, both of which are recognized for their outstanding healthcare contributions to the greater Atlanta metro area.
During his career to date, Dr. Codner has garnered many prestigious academic awards, including the 2001 Dr. Sherrell J. Aston Award for the best candidate panelist by the American Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery. Dr. Codner received the best paper award from the Southeastern Society of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeons in 1995 and 1996 as well as the best journal article by the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery in 1997. He also received the best presentation award from the Royal Canadian Society of Plastic Surgery in 2003. Dr. Codner is one of the youngest Associate Editors for the journal Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery in addition to being an associate author with Clinton McCord, M.D. of Eyelid Surgery, Principles and Techniques, a comprehensive textbook on blepharoplasty and eyelid surgery. Dr. Codner is currently chairman of the Atlanta Breast Surgery Symposium which hosts over 200 plastic surgeons from around the world each year.
Dr. Codner has an ardent interest in plastic surgery of the eyes and face including correction of cosmetic problems from previous surgery or damage due to disease. He is also actively involved in both cosmetic and reconstructive surgery of the breast and has helped many women win the battle against breast cancer. Most importantly he brings to the surgical arena meticulous surgical skills coupled with an empathetic personality and emotional support as he deeply understands and cares for his patients with both cosmetic and reconstructive problems.
