Sclerotherapy involves injecting the small clusters of veins on the legs with a solution that causes them to collapse and fade away. The procedure does not require anesthesia, and newer solutions are not painful upon injection. A typical treatment session lasts 30 minutes. Depending on the number of veins present, more than one treatment session may be necessary. These treatments are usually spaced several weeks apart. The use of compression hose for 1-2 weeks following the treatment is helpful in eliminating the veins.
